Protect Garages With Epoxy Floors

How do you turn a concrete floor into an attractive, stain resistant, easy to clean surface?  You can coat it with an epoxy resign or coating.  Any concrete surface, whether it is in a residential or commercial building such as a floor, or a wall or even the inside of an in ground pool can be improved by applying an epoxy resin.

Garage floors are the most common place where an epoxy would be applied.  The dirt, grime, oil and grease that falls from vehicles that are routinely parked in garages can stain the concrete floor.  When protected by this durable petroleum resin epoxy floors will not stain and are very easy to clean.

An added benefit to covering floors with epoxy is that they can be coated in an unending array of colors and textures.  Textures such as a slip resistant coating can be added in the garage to prevent slippage from spilled water or ice that has melted off of parked vehicles.  Although it is a petroleum based product, it is safe for use in doors in places such as the basement.  In fact it works great to cover stains and seal the concrete and make it stain resistant in the process.  The durable finish should provide years of use without flaking or pealing.  Various manufacturers of epoxy resins offer different warranties, one of which is BASF epoxy floor coating.

Applying an epoxy coating to a concrete surface is not difficult.  It can be done yourself or contracted to a local company.  If you chose to create epoxy floors in your home or office be sure to use the proper personal protective equipment.  It is best to shotblast the concrete surface before applying the epoxy.  The epoxy can cause irritation to the the respiratory system so be sure to use a face mask.  It can also cause chemical burns to the skin and eyes.  Therefore, goggles rather than standard safety glasses should be used.  Wear gloves to protect the skin.

Epoxy is available in 55 gallon drums for large projects such as warehouse floors.  It can can be sprayed on or rolled with a brush.  Some manufacturers sell a self leveling epoxy that will create a smooth even surface.  Regardless of the size of your project the finished look will give the property a well manicured and meticulous appearance.
